Project Description

Haynes Quilt Architecture is a series of free-standing art installations, utilizing handmade quilts to create a unique shade experience. Part of ¡Sombra! Experiments in Shade, the temporary structures will be constructed in a variety of shapes that respond to the park environment and provide shade and spaces to picnic and enjoy.  Created from recycled textiles from the Phoenix area, the quilt canopies illustrate the myriad of possibilities for repurposing fabrics, giving clothing and bedding a second life, and providing a sustainable, renewable alternative for used fabrics.  As part of the Quilt Architecture project, the community has the opportunity to learn how to repurpose old clothing materials and make projects of their own.
